Stephen Carter is the Group Chief Executive of Informa PLC, a leading Business Intelligence, Academic Publishing, Knowledge and Events company. He joined Informa in 2010 as a Non-Executive Director, before becoming Group Chief Executive in 2013. Over the last 11 years the Group has expanded significantly, geographically (America, Asia and the Middle East), in reach and scale, and in the deployment of Technology and Digital Services. Informa today is a FTSE 50 Company and a Market Leader in both of its key markets. The Group’s ambition is to champion specialists in B2B markets, by building a range of dedicated products and service capabilities. Often built out from large established exhibition brands, research and information Brands, or original research and advanced learning. The Group operate in 4 main markets, Advanced Learning, Information Services, B2B Market Access, and specifically has a dedicated Division servicing the Information needs of the Enterprise Technology market, Informa Tech. In the Private sector he is a career Senior Executive, having held senior positions in a range of Media & Technology businesses, and prior to becoming the Group CEO of Informa, was President & Managing Director EMEA and Global CMO of the Managed Services business at Alcatel Lucent Inc. In the Public sector he was the Founding CEO of Ofcom (the UK’s Media & Communications Regulator). He served as Chief of Strategy to the Prime Minister of the UK, The Rt Hon Gordon Brown, and was the first Minister for the Media & Telecommunications industry, where he wrote and published the Digital Britain Report. Which subsequently led to the Digital Economy Act of 2010. Stephen has served on a number of company Boards in the UK and in the US, and currently serves on the Board of Vodafone PLC, as an NED. In addition, he also serves on the Board of the PA Media Group, representing Informa’s shareholding, is Chairman of Monaco Yacht Show SAM, the Company’s JV with the Principality of Monaco, and a member of the Board for both Tahaluf , the Company's JV with EIF & SAFCSP in KSA and Bologna Fiere, the Company's JV with our partners in Bologna.
