Yuanjiang Sun is the Acting Head of Office of the AIIB Interim Operational Hub in Abu Dhabi, UAE, overseeing the administrative aspects of the Hub and serving as AIIB’s representative with the Host Member authority. He is also the Manager, Institutional Engagement and Cooperation in the Operational Partnership Department. Joining AIIB in August 2016, as the Principal Communications Officer, he played a leading role in developing AIIB’s first comprehensive Policy on Public Information. He also led AIIB’s initial approach toward partnerships and RM, aimed at supporting resource mobilization and business development demands. He pioneered a project-oriented regional cooperation approach and led institutional engagement with key regional platforms focusing on solutions for promoting cross-border connectivity. In 2021, he chaired the MDB Sherpas Group during AIIB’s Chairmanship of the Meeting of the Heads of Multilateral Development Banks. Before joining AIIB, he served as the Deputy Director General of International Relations and Economic Affairs in China’s Ministry of Commerce (2010-2016) and led negotiations on major bilateral and regional arrangements for trade and investment as Chief Negotiator. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of International Business and Economics in China and an MBA from Southern Illinois University in the United States. Sun is from China.
