Andrew Griffith was appointed Minister of State for the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology on 13 November 2023. His responsibilities include the UK’s science and research ecosystem, innovation strategy and regulation, international science and research, and critical sectors such as space, life sciences, quantum and engineering biology. The minister is responsible for the UK’s Advanced Research and Invention Agency (ARIA), Government Office for Technology Transfer (GOTT), UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) and UK Space Agency (UKSA). Prior to his most recent appointment, he held several government roles, including as Economic Secretary and Financial Secretary to the Treasury and Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for the Department for International Trade. He was elected Conservative MP for Arundel and South Downs in 2019. Prior to his election to Parliament, he spent 27 years working in business and joined the British broadcaster and telecommunications company Sky where he spent most of his career - eventually serving its customers as the youngest FTSE 100 Chief Financial Officer, and Chief Operating Officer. During Andrew's time at Sky, the business grew its customer base from 3 million to 30 million viewers. Andrew also served as the Chairman of Just Eat where he was awarded Non-Executive Director of the Year by The Sunday Times.
