Dr. Tamara Sunbul, MD, MBA, CPHIMS, FHIMSS, PMP, a native of Dhahran, boasts a distinguished career trajectory. Commencing with an MBBS in Medicine and Surgery, she embarked on a journey at the Saudi Aramco Medical Organization (SAMSO) in 1994. Throughout her tenure, she held several leadership roles, notably establishing the acclaimed Primary Care patient ownership program. Her foray into medical informatics commenced in 1996, where she became the physician representative for various IT projects and advancements. A testament to her dedication, she obtained certifications in Healthcare Information and Healthcare Management (CPHIMS) in 2011, followed by completing the Leadership Strategies for Information Technology in Healthcare program at Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health in 2016. Concurrently, she earned accreditation as a Project Management Professional (PMP). Dr. Sunbul's pivotal role unfolded in January 2018, orchestrating the seamless rollout of the Epic EHR across JHAH, assuming leadership in the Clinical Aspect and ensuring a smooth transition among physicians. Her initiatives in 2019 led to the establishment of the Strategy and Risk Management office, setting the stage for comprehensive planning, governance, policy implementation, and the adoption of ISO 31000 Risk Management framework and Enterprise Project Management (EPMO). She completed an MBA with a focus on Medical Management from the University of Massachusetts, Isenberg School of Business, in partnership with the American Academy of Physician Leaders in 2023. Currently, Dr. Sunbul holds key positions on IT Steering, Utilization committees, and chairs the Data and Documentation Governance committee. Her active involvement in HIMSS encompasses various task forces and leadership roles within the Physician, Clinical & Business Intelligence, and Innovation communities. Acknowledged for her contributions, Dr. Sunbul attained the esteemed Fellow member of HIMSS (FHIMSS) in 2020. Joining the International KLAS Advisory Board (KAB) in 2022, as well as representing Saudi Arabia at the Global Digital Health Platform, holding the position of Evidence and Evaluation workstream chair. Moreover, she currently chairs the HIMSS Middle East Community Steering Committee. In December 2023, she joined the International Digital Health Workforce Development Association (ZIMAM) Board of Directors. She was recognized as a clinical leader in the HIMSS Future50 Class of 2021 and received the Arabian Business Saudi Women in Business Award in 2022 and the Arabian Business KSA Women In Business award (Healthcare category) in 2023. Notably, she was honored as the 2022 ZIMAM/HIMSS Digital Health Leader of the Year.
